Mustang Trekking

Mustang Trekking popularly known as the ‘Last Forbidden Kingdom’, ‘Mustang’ has a drab landscapes encircled with snow-capped peaks and barren hills reaching deep inside the vast Tibetan plateau. Mustang lies north of Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges; the high desert region of the Tibetan influence, Kaligandaki, from the Tibetan border south to Kagbeni is generally called Upper Mustang trek. Annapurna Mustang trek was only opened to trekkers in  1991, so the region is still unaffected by the outer-world influence. The landscapes, scenic spots and Tibetan culture is raw and quite enthralling.

However, since it’s a restricted area it has a strict control in acquiring the permit from the immigration department.

Our Mustang trek called ‘Upper Mustang’ begins from ‘Jomsom to Kagbeni’, the entry point of the ‘Upper Mustang Region’ itself. Right after we begin the trek you begin to see the mysterious landscapes of Mustang Trek Nepal including Lo-Manthang, Charang, Ghami village coupled with large numbers of ancient monasteries with antique monuments and caves. From Kagbeni, it usually takes 5-6 days to arrive at ‘Lo-Manthang’ the royal capital of ‘Upper Mustang’.

Here you get to see Ex-King’s palance, a five storied structure built-in aorund 1400 BC, followed with visits to four major temples including Jampa Lhakang, Chodey Gompa and Choprang Gompa. These are some of the oldest Gompas’s also known as ‘God Manthang our trek heads to Muktinath after a walk of 3 days; while on the way we can see the Lo Gekar Monastery, World’s oldest Tibetan monastery  built around the 8th century  by famous Tibetan magician Guru Rinpoche.

Trek to Mustang is only suitable for trekkers with good health conditions as the trek usually requires 6 hours of walk a day.
