Everest Rolwaling Trek

Everest Rolwaling Trek

Everest Rolwaling Trek ever heard of the ‘Yeti’ stories? This is where the ‘Yeti’ encounter took place. So, you already know trekking to Rolwaling is filled with interesting stories about ‘Yeti’. Well, not only that, there’s plenty more you will be bestowed with during the trek. Rolwaling is a wild and little less travelled valley in the East of Nepal, just south of the Tibetan border, below Mt. Gauri Shankar (7,135m). However, the journey to Rolwaling is strenuous compared to other treks in the Everest region but equally rewarding and unique. We start our Everest Rolwaling Trek with a bus ride from Kathmandu – Lhasa highway, the scenic beauty on the way to Dolakha, one of the most remote parts of Nepal, itself is very captivating.

The trail from Dolakha is very well-defined and used by porters and shepherds going up the kharkhas or grazing pastures at Beding. The trail is rewarding in all terms of cultural exposure and visual drama as it passes through perfectly placed Sherpa, Tamang and Chhetri villages, typical terraced fields, dense & gloomy forests and broad ridges with beautiful views.

The most important point of the trek is the beautiful Chho Rolpa Lake (4588m), an ice lake held back by terminal moraine. The lake remains frozen for almost 6 months and melts during summer. After we finish gazing at this uniquely beautiful lake, our unmarked route goes along the Trakarding Glacier, climbing steeply up on to the Drolambau Glacier. The scenery is tremendous in every inch of the way! On the east side of the glacier is a range of mountains well over 6000m.

The Teshi Lapcha La goes through these mountains by the foot slopes of Patchamo. The descent on the other side is steep and very rough through boulder fields. Sometimes the trail is difficult to find until you reach Thyangbo Kharka, a very lonely dwelling on the route to Thame, and then on to Namche Bazaar.

We strongly recommended this trek to the Rolwaling valley only for the experienced and healthy trekkers. However, you need not worry If you don’t fall into the above class of trekkers, we at Skyline treks offer plenty of other exciting treks in the Everest region that is fit for any novice trekkers!
