Dudh Pokhari is a village in the Lamjung district of Nepal. Dudh Pokhari Trek refers to milky lake; the lake is in the Lamjung district of Nepal. Hence, the village itself has been named after the famous lake. The village of Dudh Pokhari lies at an altitude of 4560m above the sea level. Dudhpokhari trekking in Nepal is a long ridge stretching from south from Himalchuli (7896m) and near to Boudha peak (6672m).
Trek to Dudh Pokhari is a short trek, but offers many chances to enjoy the up close view of the amazingly beautiful mountains such as Mt. Manaslu (8163m), Himal chuli (7896m), Dr.Harka Gurung peak(7871m), Annapurna ranges including Manang valley and Lamjung Himal. Apart from the natural and topographical facet, the village is equivalently rich in-terms of cultural aspects too.
One of the prime inhabitants of the village are Khaling Rai’s who have their own language and ethnic lifestyle, besides Gurung communities are also in existence. According to legends, some three thousand years back the Tamu community now known as Gurung entered this area through Namun Bhanjyang from Tibet & settled there.
Tamu community had their own king in the ancient days whose palace is still there for everyone to see; therefore, this place is also known as Tamuwan. Hence, the trek in the Dukh Pokhari offers the first-hand experience of the ethnic lifestyle of these indigenous people.
